Sclerotherapy is a simple, minimally-invasive procedure that takes no more than an hour. Depending on the size of the area to be treated, the procedure may be completed in just 15 minutes.
There is no need for anesthesia since all the procedure involves is a medical professional carefully injecting the solution in the targeted area. Since this is a simple, in-office procedure that can be completed in just a few minutes, it is the ideal choice of treatment for many people.
First, your medical provider cleans and disinfects the targeted area thoroughly. Then, Asclera® is injected into the targeted vein using a fine needle; the sclerosing agent is injected into the targeted vein. This is virtually painless and feels like any other normal injection. You may feel slight discomfort, which is completely normal.
When Asclera® reaches the insides of the targeted veins, it closes down the walls of those veins, after which your blood is redirected to other healthy, unaffected veins. The targeted vein eventually breaks down and collapses, and is then absorbed by the body naturally. You can see that it slowly fades from view day after day until it finally disappears completely.
You may need more than one treatment to achieve the results you want. This mainly depends on the size of the area to be treated and how visible your spider veins are. It is also important to note that months after your sclerotherapy treatment, there is a chance that spider veins and reticular veins may reappear since they are a natural occurrence in the body.
