What is an
IPL Photofacial?
IPL, or intense pulsed light, is a technology similar to a laser. The light energy penetrates just below the skin’s surface, damaging either the melanin (skin pigment) or blood vessels, boosting collagen, and helping to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. If you’re looking to address pigmentation, Pembroke Pines has a solution for you.
IPL is a 30-minute procedure in which intense pulses of light are used to penetrate deep into the skin, reducing redness and age lines. This treatment can be used for a wide variety of skin problems you may struggle with, including age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, facial veins, freckles, rosacea, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, unwanted hair, and more.
The team at Olam Med Spa has successfully treated a long list of clients using the IPL Photofacial. We take great pride in creating an environment where you feel safe and comfortable, assured that you are under the care of experienced medical professionals who know exactly what they are doing.
What is the
procedure like?
IPL Photofacial is a non-invasive treatment that takes no more than 30 minutes. The procedure is painless, and you don’t need anesthesia. First, your medical provider will clean the treatment area and then will apply a cool gel on the skin. Based on your condition, skin type, and tone, a setting is chosen on the IPL device. At Olam Med Spa, we use the Spectrum IPL device.
The head of the IPL device is brought against the skin, where it delivers precise high-intensity light pulses. The surrounding tissues remain untouched as the technology is extremely accurate. Even though the light pulses are highly precise and not harmful, it is best to wear eye goggles as a safety measure during the procedure. You may feel slight discomfort, and people often say that the light pulses feel like being snapped gently by a rubber band. Depending on which part of your body is getting treated and how big the size is, the procedure may take anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes.

Who is an ideal
candidate for IPL?
If you identify with the following, you may be an ideal candidate for IPL Photofacial:
- You have shown signs of aging such as wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots and you want these removed
- You have sun damage on your skin
- You want to correct a skin discoloration such as hyperpigmentation, redness, freckles, etc.
- You have excess or unwanted hair you want to remove
- You have realistic expectations from the procedure
Is there a downtime?
No. IPL Photofacial works under your skin and doesn’t damage the top layer. You might have some redness, which will go away 20 to 25 minutes after the procedure. Other than this, there is no downtime and you can carry on with your day as usual without having to rest or lie down.
How many times
do I need to do IPL?
To see significant changes, it usually takes 4 to 6 sessions, one every 3 to 4 weeks. Usually, most people don’t see the results they wish to see after only one treatment, so multiple treatments may be required.
Compared to the treatment of other skin conditions such as wrinkles and age spots, hair removal requires more treatments, usually around 6 to 12 treatments.
How often does it
need to be done?
The IPL Photofacial treatment is recommended to be done every 3 to 4 weeks to achieve the best results. It is important to give your skin enough time to heal on its own in between each treatment, which is why a buffer period of 3 to 4 weeks is required.
